Map Trays

I'm in love with these map trays this morning.... I think it would be really cute to keep one by the front door to hold your keys, etc. What do you think? They're made by Etsy artist Carolina Cottage, who also has cute map trays and key holders to finish out your collection.

Hello All!

I'm sorry that I've been away for so long. Finals week + a bad cold left little time for anything else. I'm putting together some fun Christmas-y posts for you for later, but, in the mean time, here are some fun typographic maps of Paris and London from Seagull's Hut to brighten your day.

Mapping a Relationship

Here is a neat way to put maps into a wedding invitation... I love the fine level of personalized detail on Mike and Rachel's invitation map! The invitations were designed by the very cool Seattle design firm Urban Influence.

The rest of Urban Influence's portfolio looks great too.. I especially like the topographic boxes and business cards that they did for the Cloudrock company.

City Quilts

How awesome are these handmade quilts by Haptic Labs? The artist, Emily Fischer, started the project as "an experiment in tactile wayfinding."

Wouldn't they be neat to have as a bedspread for a child's room? I'm sure that they would inspire many adventures a la Enna Hittims.

There are ready-made quilts for many neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Washington DC, but Haptic Labs also takes custom orders for any city you can imagine.

A Photographic Journal of Paris

This is a pretty neat book by artist Ami Sioux. Ami asked 50 people to draw a part of Paris that was important to them. Then she went and photographed each place.

The result strongly reminds me of The Image of the City by Kevin Lynch. I find it really interesting how people draw and remember spaces because it really connects them to the way that they move through their environment.
